HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 17-7090 (BARD STREET CLOSURE)1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 ?R RESOLUTION NO. 17-7090 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HERMOSA BEACH, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING THE CLOSURE OF BARD STREET SOUTH OF PIER AVE IN ACCORDANCE WITH CALIFORNIA VEHICLE CODE SECTION 21101(A)(1) ON THE BASIS THAT IT IS NO LONGER NEEDED FOR VEHICULAR TRAFFIC THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HERMOSA BEACH, CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AND ORDER AS FOLLOWS: WHEREAS, Vehicle Code section 21101(A)(1) authorizes the City Council by resolution to close any highway that is not needed for vehicular traffic; WHEREAS, the proposed street closure will close a portion of Bard Street south of Pier Ave (depicted in Exhibit 1); WHEREAS, the portion of Bard Street carries low levels of traffic and alternate routes easily accommodate vehicles that wish to travel west on Pier Avenue or south on Valley Drive; WHEREAS, the proposed closure does not affect any signalized intersections; WHEREAS, upon closure of the portion of Bard Street, the closed portion will provide a protected parking area for public safety vehicles; WHEREAS, most of the surrounding parcels are City owned and are used for public safety purposes; WHEREAS, the protected public safety parking will allow for a safer and more efficient use of the City's public safety vehicles; and WHEREAS, the road closure is exempt from CEQA pursuant to CEQA Guidelines section 15301(c). NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council approves the closure of a portion of Bard Street south of Pier Ave in accordance with California Vehicle Code Section 21101(a)(1) on the basis that that portion of Bard Street is no longer needed for vehicular traffic, as further set forth above. The City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of this Resolution, shall cause the original of the same to be entered among the original resolutions of the City Council and shall make a minute of the passage and adoption thereof in the minutes of the City Council meeting at which the same is passed and adopted.
