A RESOLUTION OF THE PLANNING COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF H.EfilfOSA
BEACH GRANTING A ZONE VARIANCE UPON CERTAIN PROPERTY LOCATED ON
31ST STREET IN THE CITY OF HER..1,£0S4BEACH, CALIFORNIA
THE PLANNING COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF HmMOSA BEACH does resolve as follows:
WHEREAS, there was filed with this Commission, under the provisions of
Ordinance N. s. 154, application for zone variance by Calvin K~ Burris upon
property owned by the applicant and located at ll8-3lst Street; and
WHEREAS, the Planning Commission of the City of Hermosa Beach did on
October 9, 1961, conduct a public hearing to consider this application to
permit construction of a double garage with an apartment above, the second
story to be 4' from the rear property line in lieu of the required 5', with
open stairway in rear yard l' from property line; second story to encroach
l' into the 3' westerly sideyard on Palm Drive, on that property described
as follows:
Lot 6, Block 105, Shakespeare Tract;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that, in view of the findings at said hearing,
the Planning Commission does hereby grant this zone variance for the rear
yard encroachments with the provision that the open stairway be of one-hour
or incombustible materials, and that there be no encroachment into the
westerly sideyard, the reason being that it is felt by the Conmri.ssion that a
hardship would be rendered on the applicant if this request were not granted.
The foregoing. resolution was adopted by the Planning Commission at a regular
meeting held on the 9th day of October, 1961, by the following vote:

Comm. Viault stated that his particular reason for voting "yesn was not due
to the hardship of the applicant but because be did not believe the projection
into the rear yard is a detriment to the Commission's planning as established
and is not impairing any free movement down the alleyway to the rear.
