Armer, Noble, Hamilton, Boice , Chairman Viault Bud M. Trott, Building & Planning Di rector Absent: Comm. Reeves Resigned: Comm, John Hal es Comm. Boice arrived after item 3 on the agenda had been discussed. Comm. Hamilton made a motion to approve the minutes of the adjourned meeting of June 5, 1967, and the regular meeting of June 12, 1967, Motion catried unanimously, ADOLPH EHLERS -TIME EXTENSION FOR ZONE VARIANCE Request by Adolph Ehlers for extension of time on Variance P.C. 154-494, to permit retaining wall 7•~1 high along south property line in 1 ieu of maximum height of 6 1 ; and to construct a concrete porch and stairs with maximum height of 8 1 611 from existing grade encroaching into sideyard, in lieu of permitted height of 4 1 • Property situated at 2427 Manhattan Avenue, lot 19, block 29, 1st addition to Hermosa Beach. Time limit originally extended through P.C. 154-542. Letter from Mr. Ehlers was read by the Secretary, Comm. Armer, and Mr, Ehlers, who was present, was asked if he wished to speak. Mr. Ehlers reconfirmed his request and the necessity for it, which was that he was presently negotiating a building loan and wished to allow hiiself sufficient time for the processing of this loan. There was discussion by the Commission regarding the previous extension,' and the conclusion was reached that because of the 11 tight money" situation, which has existed recently, Mr. Ehlers intention to build was a legitimate one, and that he be granted this request, Motion was made by Comm. Hamilton, seconded by Comm. Noble, to grant a time extension of six months. Further discussion led to an amendment to the motion by Comm. Hamilton, and motion was made to extend the time limit to one year from the date of this meeting (July 10, 1967), and the second was accordingly amended. Motion carried unanimously. LETTER FROM MRS. ADAMS -REGARDING PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO ZONING ORDINANCE AND DEFINITION OF 11 FAMILY11 Received and filed. CORRESPONDENCE FROM CITY CLERK RE SURFSIDE COFFEE SHOPPEE AND COUNCIL ACTION There was discussion about the action of the Council regarding Mr. Ovard~ request for pantomime entertainment with taped recordings, and Mr. Trott, Building & Planning Director, explained briefly what had transpired at the Council meeting. letter was received and filed. Planning Commission Page 2 Meeting 7/10/67 The Commission proceeded to item 6 on the agenda, CORRESPONDENCE FROM CITY CLERK REGARDING RESOLUTION P.C. 154-618 DEFINITION OF FAMILY There was some concern expressed by the Commission relative to the action of the Council, and the determinations of both Planning Commission and Council in regard to such matters as this. The thought was expressed, that in order to be effective as a Commission, there should be better communication between the Council and the Commission, It was suggested that a letter be directed to the City Council by the Chairman of the Planning Commission, describing and explaining some of the thoughts which the Commission had expressed at this meeting. Chairman Viault made motion to have such a Jetter directed to the Council. Motion carried unanimously. Letter from City Clerk was then received and filed, CORRESPONDENCE FROM CITY CLERK RE RESOLUTION P,C, 154-617 CONDITIONAL USE PERMITS Received and filed. CORRESPONDENCE FROM CITY CLERK RE RESIGNATION OF JOHN HALES FROM THE COMMISSION The Commission expressed its regret at the announcement of the resignation of John Hales from the Planning Commission. Since the Council has requested suggestions from the Commission in the past, as to possible replacements on the Commission, it was the feeling that a letter be forwarded to the Council with suggested persons. Chairman Viault volunteered to send a letter to Comm. Hales commending him for his service to the community. * * * * Comm. Armer spoke of the meetings of the Hermosa Beach Improvement committee, and how they hoped to encourage people in other parts of the city to join them for expression of their ideas, and suggestions. Comm. Hamilton mentioned the litter in the streets, and the need for good street sweeping techniques. ADJOURNMENT -9:00 p.m.
