RESOLUTION HIC 78-5
A RESOLUTION OF THE HERMOSA IMPROVEMENT COMMISSION GRANTING A VARIANCE
FOR SIGNS IN EXCESS OF THE MAXIMUM ALLOWABLE SIGN AREA AT 29 PIER
AVENUE, HERMOSA BEACH.
WHEREAS, the Hermosa Improvement Commission, at their October 17, 1978 meeting,
considered the request for a wall sign at 29 Pier Avenue; and
WHEREAS, the Corrrnission noted that the existing sign area (78 square feet) was
in excess of the maximum allowable sign area (55.5 square feet), and that the
addition of the wall sign would increase the sign area to 114 square feet; and
WHEREAS, the Corrrnission received testimony from the applicant concerning the
subject wall sign; and
WHEREAS, the Conmission noted that the landscaping in front of the site obscured
the window sign;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Hermosa Improvement Commission grants a
variance, allowing the addition of the wall sign which increases the sign area at
the site to 114 square feet, because:
1. The addition of the sign would not result in a cluttered appearance;
2. Is not a granting of a special privilege;
3. Does not adversely affect public safety; and
4. Provides for visible signing in the front of the store which is not
obscured by the existing landscaping.
