RESOLUTION NO. 11-6770
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
HERMOSA BEACH, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING THE
HEALTHWAYS/BLUE ZONES VITALITY CITY "BEACH CITIES
LIVABILITY PLAN"
WHEREAS, the Cities of Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach and Manhattan Beach Council
entered into a partnership with the Beach Cities Health District and Healthways/Blue Zones
Vitality City to address present and emerging community issues such as senior care, obesity, stress
management, and transportation; focusing on ways to make each city more walkable, bikeable,
healthy and socially engaged; and
WHEREAS, HealthwaysBlue Zones Vitality City in conjunction the Walkable Livable
Communities Institute have prepared the "Beach Cities Livability Plan" as one component of this
community -wide, well-being improvement program to create healthier, happier and more
productive citizens using evidence -based environmental and policy changes to motivate residents
to adopt and maintain healthier lifestyles; and
WHEREAS, the "Beach Cities Livability Plan" identifies programs and a work plan to
advance the above goals; and
WHEREAS, acceptance of the Beach Cities Livability Plan is Categorically Exempt fi-om
the California Envirornmental Quality Act ("CEQA") under Section 15262 of the Guidelines for
Implementation of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), which states, in part, that
projects involving only feasibility or planning studies for possible future actions by an agency do
not have a significant effect upon the environment; Section 15304(h) and 15301 which allow
minor alteration of existing streets, sidewalks, gutters, bicycle and pedestrian trails; and Section
15322 which exempts education programs.

NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HERMOSA
BEACH, CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
1. Accept the Healthways/Blue Zones Vitality City: Beach Cities Livability Plan.
2. Direct the City Manager to incorporate the proposed Work Plan into the Council's
Goals and Work Plan for 2011/2012 and refer selected measures to City Departments
as appropriate.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 25th day of October 25 2011.
