HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 13-6881 (CA COASTAL TRAIL)2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 ?R RESOLUTION NO. 13-6881 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HERMOSA BEACH, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING MEMBERSHIP IN THE CALIFORNIA COASTAL TRAIL ASSOCIATION THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HERMOSA BEACH, CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AND ORDER AS FOLLOWS: WHEREAS, the California Coastal Trail traverses the City of Hermosa Beach and is known as The Strand through the City; WHEREAS, the California Coastal Trail is used, enjoyed and supported by residents of the City of Hermosa Beach; WHEREAS, the California Coastal Trail is an important recreational resource along the City's coastline and provides public access to the coast as required by California law, thereby fostering appreciation of coastal resources; WHEREAS, the California Coastal Trail provides a venue for many types of recreation and access to recreation and contributes to the wellness and public health of the residents of Hermosa Beach; WHEREAS, the California Coastal Trail is an important destination and supports the economy of the City and local businesses that cater to trail and recreational users; WHEREAS, the California Coastal Trail provides for non -motorized transportation and activities which reduce greenhouse gas emissions; WHEREAS, an alignment of the California Coastal Trail is required by law to be included in the City of Hermosa Beach's Local Coastal Program; WHEREAS, the California Coastal Trail Association is an organization of jurisdictions and stakeholders that own a portion of, or have a stake in, the success of the California Coastal Trail, and the City of Hermosa Beach includes California Coastal Trail segments; WHEREAS, the purpose of the California Coastal Trail Association is to expand awareness and use of the California Coastal Trail; promote tourism and economic development Page 1 of 2 13-6881 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 -7� 27 7R related to the California Coastal Trail; and help California Coastal Trail owners and managers with information, mapping and support so that they can be successful in funding, completing, managing, and promoting their California Coastal Trail segments; WHEREAS, the California Coastal Trail Association will work to promote the California Coastal Trail as a tourist destination, which will benefit the economy of the City of Hermosa Beach; WHEREAS, the California Coastal Trail Association will facilitate regional and statewide collaboration in planning, funding and implementing the California Coastal Trail; WHEREAS, the California Coastal Trail Association will work with its members to identify how it can best serve the interests of the membership as a whole, including advocating for resources that will support the California Coastal Trail; WHEREAS, Charter Members of the California Coastal Trail Association will participate in setting the direction of the California Coastal Trail Association for many years to come; and WHEREAS, the benefits of the membership are many in exchange for the required membership dues, which for FY 2013/14 are $500 due upon membership. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, DETERMINED AND ORDERED THAT THE CITY OF HERMOSA BEACH SHALL JOIN THE CALIFORNIA COASTAL TRAIL ASSOCIATION AS A CHARTER MEMBER.
