THE BOARD OF ZONING ADJUSTMENTS GRANTING A VARIANCE TO THE SIGN CODE FOR A SIGN IN EXCESS OF THE MAXI- MUM ALLOWABLE SIGN AREA AT 422 PIER AVENUE, HERMOSA BEACH, CALIFORNIA. WHEREAS, the Board of Zoning Adjustments of the City of Hermosa Beach, at a hearing held on November 1, 1982 in the Council Chambers of the City Hall, considered the request for a projecting wall sign at 422 Pier Avenue, legally described as Lot 14, Tract 780; and WHEREAS, the Commission noted that the allowable sign area in C-2 zone is 1½ sq. ft. for each foot of lineal front footage; that the building in question has 16½ feet of frontage, hence 24-3/4 sq. ft. of sign area is allowed; that the project represents 36 sq. ft.; and WHEREAS, the Commission also noted that the City Council has requested staff to recommend changes to the sign iordinance, one of which would be to only count one-half of the area on the second side of a double face sign; and WHEREAS, the Commission received no testimony in opposition to the proposal; WHEREAS,: after due consideration, it is the-opinion of, .. the Board of ,Zontng Adjustments that the .sign variance is justified because: ~~~i .... _ ~-_-:,-..., __ ;.;,,•' 1. The'sign is not obtrusive. 2. There are several comparable projecting signs in the immediate area. 3. The sign has no adverse effect on safety or the appear- ance of the building or surrounding area. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that in view of the .above findings, the Board of Zoning Adjustments does hereby grant the variance by the following vote: AYES: Comms. Toth, Williams, Chmn. Cutler NOES: None ABSENT: Comrns. Ebey, Moore CERTIFICATION I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution BZA 82-1 was adopted by the Board of Zoning Adjustments at a regular meeting held on the / 1st day of November, 1982.
