Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council ACTIVITY REPORT February 4, 1983 City Council Meeting of February 8, 1983- • Work is progressing well on the Lawn Bowling Club refurbishment. • The auditorium refurbishing committee has been dili- gently pursuing its task. Conceptual plans, renderings and a multi -faceted budget have been prepared. This matter will be before you on February 22 for conceptual approval. • While sustaining some damage the City fared well in the last several rain/wind storms. Some Strand area busi- nesses were damaged; the surf protruded onto the Strand and difficulties were encountered with Beach Drive.storm drainage due to the high tides concurrent with heavy rains. An emergency proclamation was proclaimed for the disaster (copy attached); damage assessments are now being done by the Building Department. In addition, outside exper- tise will be utilized to examine the pier structure. • Plans are being finalized for the March 5 public safety open house. • Effective with the February 22 agenda a new report under City Manager items will be generated to formalize/summarize Council directed projects. This recap will assist you in monitoring these several items. • This coming weekend produces two 'extraordinary events. They are: Heart to Heart An evening of Hair Design, Artistic Mark-up and High Fashion. Annual Sand and Strand Run • All Council members, the City Manager and Department Heads have been invited to the second annual.Chamber retreat. This endeavor offers the.opportunity to facilitate Chamber/ City relations, discuss economic opportunities and encour- age constructive dialog. Unless otherwise instructed by the City. Council, it is intended that the City staff will' attend at City expense subject to departmental budget limita- tions. Administratively, we would encourage all Council mesmbers to attend and participate. • RCC: Redondo Beach Consideration of Withdrawal: Their City Council has continued this matter to February 14; meetings are being held amongst all affected cities; the six City Managers are meeting with the RCC Exec.
