At 9:00 p.m. Mayor Valdes called for a brief recess - meeting called back to order at 9:15 p.m. " City Couhcil - 2/7/73 -2- 5. to direct the staff to prepare a resolution generally opposing any off -shore oil drilling or, any oil drilling within 1,000 yards of the coastline of Southern California, and particularly opposing the Occidental Petroleum Corporation drilling two oil wells in the Pacific Palisades. Mayor Valdes submitted to the Council for perusal and comments a model ordinance setting up certain time -tables and procedures for adoption of budget. On agenda for possible action 2/20/73.�/ 7. Mayor Valdes translated letter from Sister City of Loreto in Baja � California requesting assistance in getting an ambulance; Councilman Doerfling stated that he had communication requesting help in getting a fire truck. Mayor suggested that this info be transmitted to Fire Chief Fowler and City Treasurer Mary Stonier, currently chairman of Sister City Committee, and reminded those present that Sister City /1414444- Program is people -to -people and City itself must not be directly involved. nra Note: Councilman Bigo requested report re current status of Sister City Program and what happened to Youth Advisory Council contribution of medical supplies, etc. Council concurred with this request. Councilman Wise pointed out that Redondo Beach now had expertise re complicated procedures required to transmit goods to Baja California and recommended their counsel. 8. Miscellaneous non -agenda - City Council: a. Councilman Doerfling informed those present that kick-off meeting of<Bike Path Coordinating Committee would be held on Thursday, February 15 in Recreation Building at 7:30 p.m. All interested citizens invited to attend - any and all bike paths will be . _ _ ISI possible areas of.=dis'cussion. b. Mayor Valdes stated that Hermosa Beach contingent of L. A. County Lifeguard Assn. Australia -New Zealand Tour would be departing evening of February 7, 1973 and Council authorized having plaques prepared for them to take to the cities they will be visiting as symbols of friendship.
