HomeMy WebLinkAbout07/24/73* Council requested thank you letter to County for aid on 4th of July special meeting - Tuesday,July 24, 1973 - 7:00 p.m. Joint Work Session with Manhattan Beach City JCoouncil Meeting opened in?Council Chamber, City Hall, Civic Center at 7 Roll Call Present: Councilmen Bigo, Valdes, Wise, Mayor Doerfling Absent: Councilman Post (entered meeting at 7:30 p.m.) Action - to adjourn to a joint work session with the Manhattan Beach City Council to be held at K Lococo's Restaurant, 612.South Sepulveda. Boulevard, Manhattan Beach, at 7:30 p.m. for an informal exchange of views regarding matters of mutual concern to neighboring beach communities. So ordered p.m. This meeting was adjourned to a work session'at 7:20 p.m. and the City Council met with the City Council of Manhattan Beach at Lococo's Restaurant at 7:30 p.m. Councilman Post entered the meeting at this time. Present were Manhattan Beach Mayor Jason Lane and Councilpersons Joan Dontanville Stephen A. Nordeck, Gxxtaxdx Gerald C. Richardson and Michael W. Sweeney and ' City Manager Gale Martin., Members of the press representing the Hermosa Beach Review, South Bay Daily. Breeze, Easy Reader and Los Angeles Times were present as guests of the City of Hermosa Beach. JOINT WORK SESSION xxMMTUARx2ROBEEMAx0RxMEXGRxxxxxxxxxxx Beach Patrol - After discussion it was the consensus of opinion that County aid for beach and Strand patrol xtoximaxmaltxxxximptxtrx#xxtxdtxttomxtafx to cope with influx of persons from throughout the County was needed by the City of Hermosa Beach with no stings attached and that the support of Supervisthr Hayes and the South Bay Cities Association might be sought. It was noted that three beach restrooms for Hermosa Beach were on the new County budget with no xdxxnxxx discussion so far with City. Ask County to give assistance, particularly in those areas of assisting with police problems under the jurisdiction of the cities and at the same time to coordinate their programs with the cities. Paramedic - City of Manhattan Beehh agreed to meeting of their City Manager and the City Manager of Hermosa Beach to discuss possibility of their paramedic service for north half of Hermosa and Redondo's paramedic for south half of Hermosa xxfxkxxxxtxx under contractual arrangements for a fee considered reasonable by all. Super Tank Port - Mayor Doerfling, as Program Chairman for South Bay Cities Association, to suggdst._.that Standard Oil i mome in with a presentation. Busses - RTD to be asked to substitute minibusses for their big ones from airport to Palos Verdes- to be lmtm followed by reseaerch re cities having their own local bussing for old persons and school kidsx khxmigkx throughout South Bay or at least combinedschool systems. Bootleg apartments - subject tabled due to lateness of hour. (Manhattan Brach noted that they have excellent records to support but it still takes the second offence to get a conviction.) Drug Coalition - combo of Beech Ministry, Hot Line (Jim Seipel) and Free Clinic - cities will await presentation re their budget and proposed proglr am. They should be people -oriented, not paper -oriented, however, and also motx should not be made to think that they have to go into the hole before they can get any municipal =mit= monies. Adjourn - Valdes, Doerfling 0 12:30 p.m. Also discussed: EPA upcoming problem with using third hiway lane for bikes and car pools only and xxkt±xgxdowxxmt periodic 5/ reduction in off-street parkingx in downtown areas. Bike Path - Manhattan Beach afraid theirs will,fill up Strand - Hermosa saying we'll wait and see.
